Message of His Excellency, Mr. Babar Amin, the High Commissioner for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Australia, on the occasion of Australia Day

It is with great pleasure that I convey to the Government and people of Commonwealth of Australia, warm greetings, on the auspicious occasion of the Australia Day.
Pakistan and Australia enjoy close cordial bilateral relations. Both the countries share the common desire to promote global peace, security stability, development and prosperity. The relations between the two countries postdate the establishment of diplomatic ties and have continued to see an upward trajectory.
Pakistani diaspora in Australia is an important linchpin in strengthening the people to people contacts between the two countries. Our community is playing a great role of building bridges in a multicultural Australian society. Over a hundred thousand strong Pakistan origin community in Australia is positively engaged in almost every strata of the society contributing significantly to its socio-economic development.
The relations between Pakistan and Australia are underscored by objectives of mutual interests of bilateral, regional and international nature. Trade including in services such as software and IT, economic cooperation, agriculture, social sector development and bilateral investment are some of the areas that offer enormous potential for future growth. The current level of interaction in these spheres is not commensurate with the actual potential. The two countries are engaged in a wide-ranging consultation under the bilateral Joint Trade Committee. Educational links between Pakistan and Australia also remain strong with over 13000 Pakistani students currently here including those under Australia Award and the award recipients of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Pakistan and Australia maintain a robust interaction in Defence and Security domains with pragmatic cooperation in training, joint participation in defence exercises and seminars.
I would like to reiterate my confidence that these bonds of friendship will continue to gain strength and further positive momentum in the years to come.
I avail myself of this opportunity to wish the Government and people of the Commonwealth of Australia continued peace, progress and prosperity.
Happy Australia Day.

(Babar Amin)
High Commissioner
