The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has established a multifaceted ‘Science Diplomacy Initiative’ that brings Pakistani Science & Technology stakeholders on the same platform with our scientific diaspora and innovative entrepreneurs.

In order to benefit from this initiative, the High Commission of Pakistan, Canberra, is planning to convene a Virtual Science Summit 2021 titled “Creating Synergies and Partnership with Scientific Diaspora in Australia”. The Summit seeks to engage our diaspora working in diverse scientific disciplines in Australia to create their synergies and partnership for:

i. Multi-party engagement with STEM related policy stakeholders in Pakistan;
ii. Connecting our scientific diaspora in Australia with local Pakistani research and S&T entrepreneurial ecosystem;
iii. Acknowledging the contributions of Pakistanis in the Australian innovation landscape and knowledge economy.

The underlying objective is to explore the possible role of scientific diaspora in capacity building of Pakistani scientists and scientific institutions as well as value addition to the existing scientific research in diverse disciplines such as digital precision agriculture, robotics, nanotechnology, biotechnology, phenome/genome and genes bank, STEM science popularization, space technologies/geographical information systems, renewable energy, quantum computing and artificial intelligence, among other areas.

The Summit would also offer start-up entrepreneurial opportunities in science and technology-based ventures. The matchmaking under the ‘Science Diplomacy Initiative & Diaspora Outreach Research and Innovation Network’ (DORIN) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, would involve stakeholders from government sector including Ministry of Science & Technology, National Science & Technology Park, Special Technology Zones Authority, Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan, Higher Education Commission, Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, National Incubation Centre as well as prominent academic professionals in Pakistan working on new and emerging technologies, besides the private sector stakeholders.
